What is Sustainable Development?

According to World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The mainstream sustainability thinking then focuses on the problem of environmental degradation that commonly accompanies economic growth, and the need for such growth to alleviate poverty.

Mission for IPSD

IPSD is a program for students who want to participate and to make the world a better place. Our program aims to:

  1. Recruit international students from less-developed countries via the recommendations of JGIs around the world.
  2. Equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge of environmental sustainability, civil action, international affair and culture diversity.
  3. Engage students in the Roots & Shoots actions for sustainability by action learning modules.
  4. Realize the spirit of Roots & Shoots to make the world a better place.

IPSD Features

IPSD is designed to be hands-on, interactive and students-centered.

We also focus more on fieldwork and community action in order to empower students to be global citizens who take the responsibility to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.
