|摘要：||In the classroom context, teachers serve as crucial motivational socializers (Dörnyei 2001) who are actively involved in the decision making of the learning process. How teachers present the lessons as well as themselves influence the motivational quality of the learning experience. In an attempt to understand the nature of teacher-pupil interaction in the classroom and its effect on learner motivation, the present study took place in the context of two university English courses in which 108 first-year university students kept weekly diaries to reflect on their learning. 12 in-depth interviews were also conducted in order to yield a deeper picture of how learners co-construct their motivation through their social interaction with teachers. Analysis of the 108 reflective diaries and 12 in-depth interviews reveal that teachers’ authority types, immediacy behaviors, commitment and instruction are critical to the development of learner motivation.
